Professor Edward Goetz, director of the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs, has been selected to receive the 2025 Mary Helen Callahan Distinguished Service Award from the Urban Affairs Association (UAA).
This is the highest recognition granted by the UAA to individuals who have been inducted into the Distinguished Service Honor Roll and have continued to fulfill meaningful service roles within the organization. Recipients are selected based on exceptional service to the UAA, engagement outside academia, and distinguished professional service that advances the work of urban affairs practitioners.
Professor Goetz is one of five distinguished recipients this year, joining Dr. Sabina Deitrick (University of Pittsburgh), Dr. Jill Simone Gross (Hunter College, City University of New York), Dr. Michael Owens (Emory University), and Dr. Daphne Spain (retired from University of Virginia).
The formal presentation of the award will take place at the upcoming International Conference on Urban Affairs in Vancouver, BC, Canada, at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre on April 16, 2025, during the Awards and Recognition Program from 3:00–4:15pm. This year's conference theme is "Urban Concentration: Challenges to Equity, Mobility, and Sustainability" and will convene over 900 participants from more than 55 countries.
