UMN Community Fund Drive

For the 2018 University of Minnesota Community Fund Drive, the University collectively raised $1.35 million for local charities. CURA did several fundraisers over the course of the drive and raised just under $3,000 through those sales and individual donations by staff with 85% participation.

Neighborhoods Now!

The Neighborhoods Now! Fall 2018 session wrapped up in early December. Each participant attended four extensive day-long classes designed to strengthen the work of individuals and organizations through a variety of think-tank sessions, planned field actions, and guest speaker lectures.

Students draft Scott County's driverless car future 

Resilient Communities Project, in collaboration with the Center for Transportation Studies, Humphrey School of Public Affairs, and the College of Design, hosted a poster session featuring student work on RCP projects on Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs). As part of Professor Fernando Burga’s Land Use Planning class, the students took a close look at Scott County’s future with connected and autonomous vehicles and presented seven case studies to Public Affairs and Urban Planning students and Scott County officials. z.umn.edu/40by

In early December, CURA Director Ed Goetz kicked off San Francisco State University Center for Applied Housing Research’s distinguished speaker lecture series. Here he speaks on “Housing Policy and the O-Word: Getting beyond the mistakes and constraints of the ‘Opportunity Paradigm.’”

Owning Up: Racism and Housing in Minneapolis

Displayed at the Hennepin History Museum, “Owning Up: Racism and Housing in Minneapolis” explores the history of racial housing discrimination in Minneapolis through the stories of three Minneapolis families. The exhibit draws on the work of the CURA-supported Mapping Prejudice project. 

University of Minnesota student wins SIT fellowship to promote sexual health in rural Bolivia

CURA graduate research assistant Vanessa Voller was selected as the newest Alice Rowan Swanson Fellow, a program offered through School for International Training (SIT) Graduate Institute. The program supports alumni to pursue or continue research in the country where they studied abroad. Voller plans to collaborate with locals to promote sexual health and reproductive rights. Read more about Voller and her project outlook here.
