Search CURA Publications Catalog

The CURA publications library is currently being digitized by the University of Minnesota Digital Conservancy. When the project is complete, the entire CURA publications library will be online and fully searchable. Unfortunately, during this process we are not able to honor individual requests for publications . Additionally, we no longer have physical copies of publications to send out.

New publications are digitized daily and the publications catalog on the CURA website is not automatically updated with links to scanned copies, so please search the CURA collection at the Digital Conservancy for the publications you are looking for:

Search for reports, monographs, CURA Reporter articles, and other publications stemming from CURA-supported projects.

  • For search terms entered in the Search full text box, only publications matching all terms will be found. Use fewer terms to broaden your search, or more terms to narrow it.
  • The optional Program and Keywords fields can help further refine your search.
  • Search results will be displayed below the search form.

Nokomis Neighborhood Circulator Feasibility Study. 2002 Ross, Natalie.

The Nokomis East Neighborhood Association (NENA) is interested in creating a new bus service in the area bounded by Lake Nokomis, Minnehaha Creek, The Hiawatha LRT line and Highway 62. Within this area, a neighborhood circulator is envisioned to connect Nokomis residents with local business as well as the Hiawatha LRT. Though the service would try to cater to the transit reliant populations, it also is aimed at increasing public transit ridership of all residents to help reduce traffic congestion as well as build community.

NOMI Final Report. 2010 Denzer, Kristin.

The NOMI Project started as a group of real estate professionals and others interested in changing the perception of North Minneapolis through grassroots word of mouth, to be later supplemented by larger efforts in the media. The group distributed brochures listing many of the positive assets of the area. The GLBT Northsiders group conducted a series of Get to NOMI tours for potential homebuyers over the summer of 2008. A research assistant was hired to research economic sustainability and the assets that lead to positive community development.

North St. Paul Oral History. 2007 Stanich, Nicole.

The North St. Paul Arts Council needed help with an oral history project to inform the creation of murals to be painted in North St. Paul. North St. Paul is going through a transition. Highway 36, which was built in 1933, divided the town in two. The highway is now being reconstructed, and many residents are concerned about the effect this highway project will have on the town. The new highway offers an opportunity for the community to become structurally unified and for its members to renew their sense of commitment to the town.

On Quantifying the Economic Impact of the Arts in the Minneapolis Arts District. 2007 Maleitzke, Adam.

Northeast Minneapolis, the city's oldest area, has undergone a major economic transformation in the past 15 years. A collection of warehouses and storefronts that were abandoned as the economy evolved away from industry were converted to homes and studios for enterprising artists. With affordable rents and relatively easy access to transportation and the central business district, an arts community quickly developed in Northeast.

Oromo Community Engagement in the Cedar-Riverside Neighborhood. 2007 Blevins, Jennifer.

The Cedar-Riverside neighborhood in Minneapolis, located adjacent to the University of Minnesota on the West Bank of the Mississippi River, has served as a settlement for new immigrants for more than two centuries, starting with the influx of families from Eastern European countries during the 1800s. More recently, significant numbers of immigrants from Africa, and to a lesser degree Asia and Latin America, have chosen this neighborhood as their new home.

Other reports have examined regulatory and financial barriers to development of suburban affordable housing, though few have approached the topic from the perspective of the community developer. In partnership with the Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers (MCCD), this report uses this lens to examine regulatory and financial barriers that currently exist within suburban communities throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

Positive East Side Survey. 2010 Jalali, Bijan.

In recent years, the reputation of Saint Paul's East Side has suffered too often as a result of its constant association with predominantly negative stories in the media. The comprehensive East Side community represents over 1/3 of St. Paul but is frequently mistaken as one neighborhood instead of several. This harmful notion - along with the redistricting that has left several legislators, commissioners, and city council members with a 'piece of the East Side' - contributes to the stigmatization of an entire group when the actions of a few make media headlines.

Preserving Homeownership in North Minneapolis: Responding to the Impact of Foreclosures. 2008 Erickson, Alyssa

Imagine what the public reaction would be if a tsunami destroyed over 2,000 homes in one area, leaving 2,000 families without shelter or assets. North Minneapolis is now experiencing such a tidal wave of foreclosures, and while the houses may still be standing, the devastation families experience through foreclosure is on the scale of that experienced in a massive natural disaster. Northside neighborhoods and residents are concerned about the negative impacts on individuals, families and communities.
