Snowbirds Head South.
A 1989 survey of Minnesotans aged sixty or over in 1,500 households across the state showed that over 70,000 leave the state during the winter for Arizona, California, Florida, and Texas and spend $110 million while they are away. The report tells who the snowbirds are, their educational and financial makeup, and how long, on average, they stay away from Minnesota. The survey was conducted for the Wilder Research Center.
