Increasingly, urban residents are detached from, and lack opportunities to meaningfully interact with, their natural environment. North Saint Paul has many unique natural features that offer opportunities to educate residents about the local ecosystem and natural resources that are available, and to encourage residents to reengage with their natural environment.

In spring 2014, a course in Environmental Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth campus focused on environmental issues investigation developed recommendations for creating environmental education programs.
