Youth of Color Podcasts

Vision In Living Life “Change is Possible”: Building Healthy Lifestyles Program, is an independent program run out of Aurora/ St. Anthony Neighborhood Development Corporation, that works with youth in the community strengthening values to live a more productive life. V.I.L.L “Change is Possible,” uses a six-lesson curriculum to teach at-risk youth how to become model youth. The goal of the project was to give local youth of color the opportunity to tell and publicly discuss their issues and concerns by teaching them how to create community-based media, specifically podcasts. Twelve African American and Hmong youth between the ages of 15 and 21 were engaged in a seven-month program that produced podcasts about issues important to them. The project created community-based media, providing the youth with new skills and a greater ability to demonstrate their leadership. In the long-term, relationships have been built to involve and bring new youth leaders into the work that is being done in the neighborhood.
