William Mitchell Community Development Clinic

The William Mitchell Community Development Clinic provides legal assistance to community groups, advocacy organizations and small non-profits. Law students enrolled in the clinic provide legal representation to clients under the supervision of a licensed attorney. The student researcher worked collaboratively with one or more law students enrolled in the William Mitchell Community Development Clinic. Primary clients for the spring semester included the University Avenue Business Association, individual small businesses along University Avenue, and one or more Saint Paul District Councils. Zachary Hanson, a Political Science undergraduate student in the College of Liberal Arts, performed non-legal research about the history of the district councils relates to the Minnesota Open Meeting Law and on policy initiatives to help small businesses survive the construction of the Central Corridor LRT. The results are being used to inform efforts to support businesses and District Councils as related to the central corridor light rail.
