William Mitchell Community Development Clinic

The William Mitchell Community Development Clinic provides legal assistance to community groups, advocacy organizations and small nonprofits. The student researcher will work collaboratively with one or more law students enrolled in the William Mitchell Community Development Clinic to provide exceptional service and representation to clients. Primary clients for the summer semester include the University Avenue Betterment Association, individual small businesses along University Avenue, and one or more Saint Paul District Councils. Caroline Devany, a Urban Studies undergraduate student at Macalester College, conducted non-legal research and writing on policy initiatives to help small businesses survive the construction of the Central Corridor LRT and on environmental justice and equity issues throughout the metro area. The results are being used to inform policies and programs related to both issues.
