Understanding the Value of Placed Based Organizing

The Lyndale Neighborhood Association (LNA) is one of several neighborhoods taking the lead in creating an association of Minneapolis neighborhood organizations. This project will layout an intellectual framework for understanding the value of place based organizing in Minneapolis. This will be a starting place for developing a coherent rationale for understanding how neighborhood organizations in general fit into Minneapolis’ social ecosystem. Jessica Peterson White, a Public Affairs graduate student at the Humphrey School, performed a literature review on placed based organizing and its impact on quality of life and the well-being of the community. The results are being used to inform discussions about the value of place based organizing to the City and the role of neighborhoods groups.
