Seward Strategies to Increase Participation by Recent Immigrants

Seward Redesign is a nonprofit community development corporation that engages residents, businesses, property owners and partners from the public and private sectors in comprehensive, pro-active housing, commercial and small business development. The Seward community has a strong and growing population of East African immigrants and an increasing number of immigrant owned businesses. Rugia Mohamed, a Public Health graduate student in the College of Liberal Arts, gathered input from the immigrant community on Redesign’s current programs and made recommendations on how services might be changed to meet the needs of the immigrant community. The results are being used to more effectively get resources out to immigrant entrepreneurs and business owners to help them be successful in Seward.
