Planning for the Future of Cleveland Park

The Cleveland Neighborhood Association (CNA) is a long established nonprofit organization seeking to improve and promote the quality of life in that North Minneapolis neighborhood. Cleveland Park is one of the main recreational and public spaces in the Cleveland neighborhood and sits between Lucy Craft Laney school and the neighborhood shopping/transit node of Penn and Lowry. Development plans for Lowry and Penn include mixed-use buildings that would include pedestrian connections to Cleveland Park. As part of the Folwell Park Community Service area, Cleveland Park has a potential $200k update coming in 2017. The Cleveland Neighborhood Association needs to be proactive in engaging its community residents to plan strategically to bring together the Minneapolis Parks, the Minneapolis Public Schools (on behalf of Lucy Laney) and the philanthropic community to envision and fund a true community gathering place in Cleveland Park. Amber Hill, a Master of Landscape Architecture student in the College of Design, will engage with stakeholders and residents, create design concepts and priorities, and compile a final vision that will reflect the needs and desires of residents. These documents will serve as tools to engage stakeholders such as the Minneapolis Parks as well as potential funders for additional park funding.
