Outreach Tools for Woodlands, Farmlands and Big Backyards

The Washington Conservation District was established in 1942 to manage and direct conservation programs and assist landowners in conserving soil and water resources. The goal of this research project is to evaluate the audience’s knowledge about and interest in local land and water conservation issues. Alexander Liebman, a Biology undergraduate student at Macalester College, conducted interviews, focus groups and neighborhood meetings with rural landowners in Washington County. The results are being used to develop outreach tools that will encourage land stewardship and reduce water pollution in the St. Croix River, as well as local lakes and streams.
