Employer Assisted Housing Models and their Applicability to the Lowry and Chicago Avenue Corridors

The Department of Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED) at the City of Minneapolis will explore Employer Assisted Housing (EAH) models. In times of unusual resource constraints, and in locations where it is difficult to attract new development, EAH models have the potential to make high quality development possible through leveraging private investment and improving risk assessments for lenders. Sasha Bergman, an Urban and Regional Planning graduate student at the Humphrey School, identified relevant EAH models locally and nationally, explored their applicability to two local settings, engaged potential institutional partners and created a final report. The results are being used to inform development of complementary CPED programs, and advocate for complementary state-level programs or benefits for institutions that participate in EAH programs.
