Blueprint Indicators Project

Minnesota Asian/American Health Coalition (MA/AHC) was established in 1999 as a health advocacy organization for the Asian and Pacific Islander community of Minnesota. The U.S. healthcare system supports a western model of medicine and is grounded in an American value of individualism; although many within the AAPI community practice different health and healing beliefs and consider illness an issue of the entire family. Without acknowledging and negotiating the dominant culture of the Minnesota healthcare system with the traditional beliefs of its largely immigrant AAPI community, health equity cannot exist and disparities will continue. The project sought to identify and report indicators that will measure a baseline for AAPI health equity. Joseph Pham, a graduate student in the Law School, identified indicators based on the Blueprint recommendations. The results are being used to advocate for AAPI health equity.
