Asset Building through Family and Community Based Financial Well Being
Build Wealth Minnesota is a nonprofit dedicated to helping educate and prepare people to get out of debt and out of poverty. The organization, based in north Minneapolis, was started in 2004 with a focus on African American families living in the surrounding community. Build Wealth’s program is grounded in the products and services that are part of the economic marketplace and informed by the pitfalls that have kept African American families from realizing greater economic success. The research/evaluation objective is to better understand the needs, motivations, and goals of participants as well as the development of in-depth longitudinal evaluation. Haden Bowie, an Urban and Regional Planning graduate student at the Humphrey School, developed a program evaluation for Build Wealth.
