Description: Several years ago, the leadership at Little Earth of United Tribes had the vision to create homeownership opportunities for the rental residents and other American Indians living in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. With assistance from the City of Minneapolis and the Greater Metropolitan Housing Corporation, they began to acquire parcels south of the Little Earth campus with the goal of creating American Indian homeownership opportunities. Little Earth reached out to the City of Lakes Community Land Trust to further ensure the long-term affordability of the homes and provide post-purchase support to homeowners. The first stage of this effort is nearing completion, with three of five homes nearly constructed. At the forum, participants will learn about:

  • The history of Little Earth of United Tribes, its significance in the community, and the importance of the Little Earth Homeownership Initiative
  • The progress of the City of Lakes Community Land Trust, how a Community Land Trust works, and it’s relationship with Little Earth
  • The positive community development change these homes will bring to the community
