It is with deep sadness that we report the loss of our dear colleague and friend Barbara Lukermann, who passed away on Monday, March 23, at her home in Falcon Heights. Barbara fought a hard battle against cancer for the last 6 months. Barbara was much loved for her devotion to her community and to her students. From 1982 to 2008, Barbara was a senior research associate at CURA and a senior fellow and faculty member in the Humphrey Institute’s Master of Urban and Regional Planning Program. She also chaired the Metropolitan Waste Control Commission, was a board member of the St. Paul District Energy utility, chaired the American Institute of Certified Planners, and was president of the Citizens League.
A memorial event is being planned for April 22, 2009, at the McNamara Alumni Center. At the family's request, memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, should be sent to the University of Minnesota Foundation, Barbara L. Lukermann Service Award, Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota, Attn: Development Office, 301 19th Avenue S., Suite 300, Minneapolis, MN 55455.
Barbara will be greatly missed.
