The following CURA programs provide grants or technical assistance for government-initiated projects:

CURA Community-Based Research Programs—CURA houses several programs that provide graduate or undergraduate student assistance for applied research projects, program planning and development, program evaluation, and other short-term projects (view application form):
- Community Assistantship Program (CAP)—applied research assistance for community-based nonprofits, citizen groups, and government agencies in Greater Minnesota
- Communiversity—support for community-based nonprofit organizations and agencies in Minnesota with a specific project need

Center for Community and Regional Research (CCRR)—support for cooperative research involving faculty and students at the University of Minnesota at Duluth and government agencies in northeastern Minnesota |

Community Geographic Information Systems (CGIS) Program—Provides GIS data access, technical assistance, and educational and training opportunities to neighborhood groups, community organizations, and local government agencies in Minnesota. |

Community Growth Options (U-CGO)—applied research assistance for local governments in developing communities on the edge of the Twin Cities metropolitan area that are trying to manage growth in ways that make development more sustainable, more environmentally responsive, and more economically efficient. |

Hennepin-University Partnership—a collaborative initiative between Hennepin County and the University of Minnesota to support community-based research, share academic and practitioner expertise, and provide students with field experience |
