CURA Photocopying and Xerox Usage Policies
CURA Photocopying and Xerox Machine Usage Policies

General Photocopying Policies

  1. Each CURA program has a separate Xerox account number. CURA charges your program’s CUFS account each month according to the number of copies made on your Xerox account number. The current CURA photocopy rate is 5 cents per single-sided photocopy.

You are responsible for all copies made on your account number, so please safeguard the number.

  2. For printing projects that involve more than 25 copies, please ask Briana Chatters to take your materials to Printing Services. The CURA Xerox machine is not intended to be used as a high-volume photocopier, and such use increases wear-and-tear on the machine, resulting in costly repair bills.

The Printing Services photocopy rate is cheaper (3 cents for single-sided 8.5 x 11 copies, 5 cents for double-sided copies). In addition, their photocopy machines can make copies much faster than the CURA Xerox for large quantities. Turnaround on most photocopy jobs is the same day (smaller jobs can usually be done while you wait). Printing Services also provides oversize and color copying at reasonable rates. Printing to the Xerox Machine

  1. Most computers at CURA are networked to the Xerox machine, allowing you to print to it directly. You can do this by choosing “CURA DC340” from the Printer menu in the print dialogue box of most software programs.

  2. DO NOT print more than 25 pages at a time to the Xerox machine from your computer. There are several reasons for this policy:

The Xerox machine uses a different paper path when it acts as a printer. Some components in the pathway quickly get overheated after printing more than a few pages, causing paper jams and expensive repairs.
Some file types—especially Postscript files or PDFs with many large graphics—take a long time for the Xerox machine to process. Unfortunately, once the print job is sent to the Xerox machine, it will not perform any other photocopying or print task until the print job is complete.

  3. If you need to print more than 25 pages, please ask Briana Chatters to take the print job to Printing Services. You can e-mail your file to her as an attachment at cura@umn.edu.
