Transferring Files
Transferring Files
by Will Craig (updated October 2007)

From time to time, each of us needs to transfer large files to another location. Often such files are so large that e-mail attachments do not work, even when the files are compressed using WinZip. In this case, the best solutions are the following:

1. Flash Drive. Best for local transfer. CURA owns 2 flash drives (a.k.a., “memory stick”) that can hold 256 & 512 MB of data. This is the most expensive transfer device, but the easiest to use and transport. It’s about the size of a cigarette lighter. Ideal for collecting files from people at a conference or meeting as well. Simply plug it in an available USB port on your computer or laptop and you’re ready to go. See the front desk staff to sign out this device.

2. Compact Disc (CD). Best for mailing or giving away. These disks can hold up to 700MB. Most people can burn a CD on their own computer. Those without that capability can ask Anne to do it on her computer. Transfer the desired files to her via the Shared Folder (into the Briana Chatters folder) or a flash drive, then ask her to burn a disk for you.
