CURA Programs for Community-Initiated Projects

The following CURA programs provide grants or technical assistance for community-initiated projects:

CURA Community-Based Research Programs—CURA houses three programs that provide graduate or undergraduate student assistance for applied research projects, program planning and development, program evaluation, and other short-term projects (view application form):

Community Development Work Study Program—Provides fellowship and internship opportunities for disadvantaged or underrepresented students at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs who have a career interest in housing and community development issues.

Hennepin–University Partnership—An initiative to make the connection between the state’s premier research institution and largest county more strategic, including collaboration on important community-based research, sharing of academic and practitioner expertise, and providing students with field experience.
Minneapolis Neighborhood Information Systems (MNIS)—capacity-building and technical assistance for neighborhood organizations using maps, geographic information systems (GIS) analysis, and City of Minneapolis parcel-level data
Northside Seed Grant (NSG)—Supports community organizations that operate programs serving residents of the Northside community by providing student research assistants and faculty researchers to carry out neighborhood-initiated and neighborhood-guided projects.
Neighborhood Partnership Initiative (NPI)—Supports partnerships among neighborhood organizations and youth, immigrant, or arts organizations that increase involvement of immigrant, underrepresented, and youth constituencies in solving neighborhood problems
University-Neighborhood Network (UNN)—course-based project support for neighborhood-based revitalization organizations in Minneapolis and St. Paul
Minnesota Center for Neighborhood Organizations—training for organizers and staff at neighborhood and community organizations in the Twin Cities metro area and Greater Minnesota
Minnesota Center for Survey Research (MCSR)—survey research and consultation services for government agencies and nonprofit organizations working on public policy issues in Minnesota
Center for Community and Regional Research (CCRR)—support for cooperative research involving University of Minnesota at Duluth faculty and students, and community agencies in northeastern Minnesota
New Initiatives—supports projects by community groups and government agencies that are unrelated to an existing CURA program
